Corns and Calluses
What are corns and calluses?
Corns and calluses are areas of thickened skin that develop in response to repeated pressure or friction. Corns often form on the tops or sides of toes or between toes, and can be hard or soft in texture. Calluses typically appear on the soles of the feet, especially on the heels or balls of the feet, where the skin works to protect itself from constant rubbing. Both conditions are commonly caused by tight or poorly fitting footwear, high heels, or changes in walking patterns.
While these areas of thickened skin are usually harmless, they can become painful or uncomfortable if pressure continues or if they grow too thick. Treatment focuses on reducing pressure, wearing properly fitting shoes, and, in some cases, gently removing the thickened skin. Our podiatrists can safely manage stubborn or painful corns and calluses, particularly when an underlying foot problem contributes to their formation.
If you are experiencing discomfort from corns or calluses, book an assessment with one of our podiatrists, and we will discuss the most suitable treatment for you.
