Foot & Joint Pain

What is a foot and joint pain?

Foot and joint pain refers to discomfort or soreness in the feet, ankles, or other joints, which can result from a variety of conditions. It can affect the bones, muscles, tendons, or ligaments, and may make walking, standing, or daily activities uncomfortable.

Some common causes of foot and joint pain include:

  • Arthritis: Inflammation in the joints, often leading to stiffness and pain.
  • Plantar fasciitis: Pain at the bottom of the foot, particularly the heel, caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia.
  • Bunions: A bony bump at the base of the big toe that can make walking uncomfortable and may cause the toe to angle inwards.
  • Hammer toes: A condition where one or more toes are permanently bent downward, often causing pain, rubbing, or corns.
  • Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons, often from overuse or injury.
  • Flat feet or high arches: These can affect foot alignment and contribute to joint pain and discomfort.
  • Gout: Sudden, intense joint pain, usually affecting the big toe, caused by uric acid crystals.
  • Morton’s neuroma: Thickening of tissue around a nerve between the toes, causing burning or sharp pain.
  • Heel spurs: Bony growths on the heel that can cause localized pain when walking or standing.

Treatment may include rest, stretching exercises, supportive footwear, orthotics, or specialist podiatry care. At Essex Podiatry Clinics, we offer a full musculoskeletal assessment, including gait analysis, to identify the underlying cause and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
