Verrucas
What is a verruca?
A verruca is a viral skin lesion that develops on the sole of the foot and is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It often appears as an area of thickened or rough skin and may contain small dark dots, which are tiny blood vessels. As verrucas commonly occur on pressure points such as the heel or forefoot, they can become uncomfortable or painful when standing or walking.
Verrucas are infectious and can be passed on through direct skin contact or contact with contaminated surfaces, such as swimming pool surrounds and changing room floors. We treat both children and adults with this condition and offer a range of treatment options, including chemical treatments and SWIFT microwave therapy, depending on individual presentation and clinical assessment.
If you are concerned about a verruca or it is causing discomfort, book an assessment with one of our podiatrists, and we will discuss the most appropriate treatment option for you.
