Biomechanics At Essex Podiatry Clinics
Your feet and lower limbs are an integral part of walking, running and even simply standing. When alignment is off or joint mechanics aren’t performing as they should be, then pain or injury can follow; affecting almost every daily activity. At Essex Podiatry Clinics, the Biomechanics Lab at our Laindon site combines structural assessment with cutting-edge treatments to find and correct the root cause of discomfort.
These include Footscan® gait analysis technology, shockwave therapy, ultrasound imaging, and guided steroid injections, to help restore you back to full health.
What Is Biomechanics?
Biomechanics is the study of how the joints and muscles work together during movement. In podiatry, it helps us to examine how your foot, ankle, knee, and hip interact during daily activities, and where issues are stemming from.
By analysing your movement, we can detect what might be causing the pain or discomfort, and from there we offer a range of targeted solutions which aim to correct the issue and prevent the recurrence of symptoms.
Biomechanics is an essential part of modern podiatry, and it guides everything we do, from the effective use of orthotics, to long-term treatment plans.

Our Biomechanics Lab Assessment
Our bio lab assessment provides an enhanced structural overview, including a Footscan® gait and movement analysis; the first and only gait analysis technology to be ‘Professionally Approved’ by the Royal College of Podiatry.
Pressure Plate Gait Analysis
A gait analysis uses a pressure plate system to measure how load is distributed across your feet whilst standing, walking or running
2D & 3D Movement Visualisation
2D and 3D visualisations of your movement patterns
Biomechanical Issue Identification
Helps to identify biomechanical issues such as asymmetry, foot pressure abnormalities or misalignment
Personalised Treatment Recommendations
Helps to identify biomechanical issues such as asymmetry, foot pressure abnormalities or misalignment
Orthotics
If your podiatrist identifies that orthotics are the best course of treatment, the goal will be to distribute pressure more evenly, and allow natural motion with less stress and strain on your joints and muscles.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy sounds extreme, but it is actually a non-invasive method used to regenerate injured tissues. It uses shock waves to stimulate cell repair and regeneration; prompting the body’s natural healing process. It can be particularly helpful with chronic pain in the foot, ankle and knee, caused by plantar fasciitis.

Ultrasound & Steroid Injection Clinic
At Essex Podiatry Clinics, we’re proud to partner with a dedicated ultrasound and steroid injection clinic, available alternate Saturdays at our Laindon site. This specialist service combines podiatric and diagnostic expertise to offer targeted treatments for a range of musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions.
All appointments are led by Selina, a highly-skilled podiatric surgeon who performs diagnostic ultrasound scanning, ultrasound-guided steroid injections, as well as advanced procedures such as skin surgery and dermal fillers for painful corns and fat pad atrophy.
